In case you didn’t know I am a Southern Baptist pastor. I know that comes with a lot of baggage, some of which is deserved while some is just preconceived ideas and notions. That being said, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is in a pretty strategic position right now to affect the climate of North America and the ends of the earth for a very long time. Why do I say this? Because the leadership of the main SBC entities is one of the most impressive and godly group of men I have ever seen assembled under one denominational umbrella. While I am not an expert on these men, the entities they run, or even know any of them personally, I am excited to link arms with them and proudly support them in prayer, finances and support. Over the next couple of days we will look at each entity and the man who serve that entity as it’s president.
NAMB (North American Missions Board)
President Dr. Kevin Ezell (52) is a former mega-church pastor in Louisville, Ky. He heads a missions agency that strives to:
- Mobilize churches, church planters and other missionaries to penetrate lostness and connect unchurched people with a local congregation
- Equip church planters and sending churches for evangelistic church planting.
- Plant churches within defined regions, people groups and large population centers (cities).
IMB (International Missions Board)
Dr. David Platt (35) is one of the most recognizable names in contemporary Christianity today. He is a best-selling author and former pastor and seminary professor. He heads the largest international missionary agency in the world with nearly 5,000 full-time missionaries under his care.
Between these two entities tens of thousands of people are being sent and trained to reach North America and the ends of the earth for Christ. These positions have been called the most important position in the world because of the global impact the gospel has as well as the missionaries that are able to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to the world.
